Community Mourns Sudden Death Of 2 Firefighters; Including Veteran, Harrisburg Police Officer

The Lower Swatara Volunteer Fire Department has lost two of its own in less than one week.

David 'Dave' J. Floyd (also known as 'DJ') died suddenly from a heart attack on Aug. 4, according to the department.

Eric Breon also died suddenly on Aug. 10, but details on his death and memorial services have not been released.

Both men were active members of the department.

Floyd was a member of the fire department for decades and was an instructor for Harrisburg Area Community College.

"Rest easy Firefighter Floyd, we will take it from here," the department said in a statement.

Statement for community members and other public service departments have been posted on social media.

Floyd was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on March 6, 1962, according to his obituary.

He was a retired US Army Veteran and Harrisburg City Police Officer.

He is survived by his father, his brothers, his children Mark and his wife, Jill Floyd; John and wife, Janna Floyd; and his nieces and nephews, Anna, Rebekah, Daniel, Samuel, Heidi, Benjamin, Emma and Katherine Floyd.

His viewing will be from 12 to 2 p.m. followed by services, both at Matinchek Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. at 260 East Main Street, Middletown Friday, Aug. 13.

He will have a burial will military honors.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Floyd can be made to the Lower Swatara Volunteer Fire Department.

Details on Breon have yet to be made public.
